How to Make Your Corporate Blog Stand Out
Corporate blogs are a dime a dozen these days, but only a few have been able to really captivate an audience that will keep coming back for more. Michelle Bowles, of the Online Marketing Blog, recently authored a post on how a corporate blog can be made to stand out. Here are some of her tips:
Talk about topics other than your company. Often times, corporate blogs are created with the intention of marketing products and services. While there is definitely a use for this, it must be done subtly and cannot be over the top. It’s important that the blog have posts that aren’t about products and services, so that visitors don’t feel like they are constantly reading a press release or advertisement. According to Bowles, “the most successful corporate blogs leverage product and service information with relevant industry news, human interest pieces, case studies and other useful information.”
Give your blog some personality. No one wants to read dry and humorless postings all the time. Sometimes there are serious topics that need to be discussed, such as the release of a new cancer drug or a new study that reveals information about Alzheimer’s disease; however, it is important to make sure that your corporate blog is well balanced with some lighthearted and funny postings as well. The more the blog can be humanized, the more readers will come back. A good example of this is Johnson and Johnson’s blog, JNJ BTW.
Provide your readers with a unique experience that they won’t find elsewhere. Make an effort to establish your corporate blog as a place where readers can find breaking news about your company or highlights of original research that they won’t be able to find anywhere else. By doing this “your customers can form a close connection with your brand because they feel as if they’re gaining an inside look or exclusive information.”
